Człowiek, który wybudował polskie fabryki lotnicze
Tomasz LachowskiPolish text.
Piotr Leon Czyżewski was an outstanding yet largely forgotten figure – a soldier, an officer of the Polish Army, and an architect who played a key role in developing the aviation infrastructure of the Second Polish Republic. Between 1927 and 1939, he designed and oversaw the construction of the most important military aviation projects, including the airfield in Warsaw’s Okęcie and the modern armaments factory in Paluch, where the production of the PZL-37 Łoś bombers began. Recognised for his expertise, he was later appointed to supervise the construction of aircraft and engine factories in Rzeszów and Mielec, as part of the Central Industrial District. These projects were of strategic importance to the country’s defence capabilities. After the outbreak of the war, Czyżewski served in the Polish Armed Forces and eventually emigrated to Argentina. His life story and achievements have now been brought back to light in this publication. It is a compelling account of patriotism, expertise, and service to the nation – not only in uniform, but also with pencil in hand at the drawing board.
